PSE Dead-Front Pad-Mounted Switchgear
The Federal Pacific PSE is a manual dead-front pad-mounted switchgear designed for reliable underground medium-voltage distribution systems where automation is not required. The dead-front design provides enhanced security of fuse and switch components from environmental concerns and improved isolation of medium-voltage circuits to limit exposure of operating personnel.
Available in 15kV and 25kV class (UL Listed) and 35kV class, the PSE is well suited for utility, commercial, and industrial underground distribution applications requiring dependable manual switching and fuse protection.
Technical Overview
The PSE enclosure is built to the same construction standards as the PSV, featuring a low-profile, heavy-gauge design engineered for long service life in outdoor environments.
- Low-profile 11-gauge pickled and oiled steel, all-welded construction with cross-kinked roof to eliminate standing water.
- Stainless steel enclosure also available for severe environments.
- Stainless steel hinges and hinge pins with padlockable self-resetting three-point auto-latch door security system.
- Silver-to-silver contact surfaces for optimum current carrying and reduced heating.
- Enclosure bottom flange gasketed to isolate and protect finish during installation and throughout service life. Galvanized steel floor plate isolates interior from moisture and contaminant ingress.
- Electrostatically deposited baked powder epoxy primer and polyester topcoat finish meeting ANSI C57.12.28 requirements.
- Meets IEEE C37.74 requirements including three-time fault-closing on switches and fuse mountings. UL Listed at 15kV and 25kV.

- Configurations include bus-tie arrangements and combinations of switches and fused feeders.
