Mirus by Federal Pacific Performance Transformers
Mirus, a specialized division of Federal Pacific, designs the ULLTRA Ultra Low Loss Transformer to deliver the highest efficiency available under both linear and non-linear loading conditions. Unlike standard energy-efficient transformers that meet efficiency requirements only at 35% load under linear conditions, the ULLTRA maintains superior efficiency across the entire load range and under real-world non-linear loading, making it ideally suited for both light and heavy loading applications.
Available from 15 kVA to 750 kVA with secondary voltages of 208V, 480V, and 600V, the ULLTRA series is UL and cUL Listed and validated through linear and non-linear load testing in the Mirus Harmonics and Energy Lab.
Technical Overview
The ULLTRA is engineered to reduce losses, minimize harmonic impact, and maintain high efficiency at any load profile.
- kVA range: 15 kVA through 1,000 kVA kVA with secondary voltages of 208V, 480V, and 600V.
- Magnetising inrush: less than 8 times FL RMS.
- Neutral bus ampacity: 200% of phase current for non-linear load environments.
- Copper windings with polyester resin insulating varnish impregnation.
- Electrostatic shield: single standard, double optional.
- Audible sound level: 3 to 5 dB below NEMA ST-20 requirements.
- Anti-vibration pads between the core and enclosure for reduced noise and improved longevity.
Typical Applications
The ULLTRA is specified for facilities and applications requiring high transformer efficiency under variable and non-linear loading conditions, where energy savings and reduced lifecycle costs are priorities.
Data Centers
High-efficiency transformer for data center environments where non-linear loads and variable loading demand consistent performance across the full load range.
Commerical & Industrial
High-efficiency transformer for commercial buildings, manufacturing facilities, and industrial sites with non-linear loads from VFDs, HVAC systems, and process equipment, supporting reduced energy costs and lower lifecycle expenses.
Water / Waste Water
Reliable transformer for treatment plants and pump stations with VFD-driven motor loads, delivering high efficiency under variable loading conditions to reduce energy consumption across continuous-duty operations.
ULLTRA
The standard ULLTRA ultra low loss transformer engineered for maximum efficiency under both linear and non-linear loading at any load level.
- Linear load losses 30% lower than NEMA TP-1 requirements.
- Efficiency meets NEMA Premium and DOE 2016 at 35% load and exceeds NEMA Premium at the peak design loading of 50%.
- Non-linear load efficiency exceeds NEMA TP-1 requirements under real-world conditions.
- Audible noise levels 3 to 5 dB below NEMA ST-20 requirements.
ULLTRA H1E
For applications where non-linear loading is expected to be severe, the ULLTRA H1E combines the proven harmonic mitigating properties of the Mirus Harmony HMT line with the superior energy efficiency of the ULLTRA design.
- Treats triplen harmonics (3rd and 9th) within the transformer and 5th and 7th upstream.
- Voltage distortion (flat-topping) minimized by cancelling zero sequence fluxes within the secondary windings and eliminating circulating currents in the primary windings.
- Highest efficiency harmonic mitigating transformer from the company that first introduced HMTs to the market in the early 1990s.
- Combines harmonic mitigation with ULLTRA energy efficiency, low inrush, and low audible noise.

Engineered for Performance
Mirus engineers the ULLTRA transformer with a focus on real-world efficiency rather than test-condition compliance. By maintaining high efficiency across the entire load range and under non-linear loading conditions, the ULLTRA reduces energy losses, lowers life cycle costs, and contributes to LEED Energy and Atmosphere and Innovation and Design categories.
The ULLTRA also supports right-sizing. Because the transformer maintains high efficiency under heavy and non-linear loading, it can be sized to operate at higher load levels without sacrificing energy performance, reducing both initial and operating costs. Performance is validated through linear and non-linear load testing in the Mirus Harmonics and Energy Lab.
